My desktop doesn't go off when hibernate!
It's a Dimension 9150 with xp sp3. Before hibernate worked. These days when it hibernates, it switch off the screen and mouse (because I see no light from inside mouse), but the PC is still on. If I press the power button it immediate goes off, but if I press power button again, it starts up as if it was switched off - not wake up from hibernation.

There are several reasons why hibernate doesn't work like it used to -
- The hibernte feature is corrupted and it may not be possible to make it behave in that way again. Try disabling hibernate through "System" in Control Panel and re-enabling it.
- The computer might need more memory in order to do the hibernation. If you want you can increase your paging file through System, under the Advanced tab I think, look for "paging file" and see what the maximum size should be.
- There might be some applications running that the computer cannot put into hibernation, and so the computer fails to do this.
- Assuming no Power settings have changed, it could be that the computer is no longer able to enter the hibernation state, this could be as a driver or something has become out-dated or overused (yes, believe me, it can happen - things like this can just stop working for no apparent reason). Resetting the Power settings ("Display Properties" in Control Panel) may help with this.
Personally I wouldn't rely on hibernate because it does mean the computer still needs power because it is not completely off. An environmentalist would tell you to power off the computer completely instead of leaving it on, but I don't support that view as much as I do to help you with this.
