My computer crashed and I had the hard drive replaced by a friend. Now, I need to reinstall windows 7. The operating system disk came with my Dell Inspiron 1470 and I have it. I am ready to install the software and the cover of the disk said to look on the bottom of the computer for the product key. It is there; however, the numbers/letters have faded from rubbing against things over time and I can't read it!!!! Where can I find out what the product key for my system is? Please help!

Hi cmspruill,
If the CD that you have is a Dell OEM disk then product key is not required while installing Windows on the computer. Please use this link to install Windows 7 on the computer.
Note: Ensure to back-up the data from the computer before performing Operating System reinstall.
