Norton Antivirus Definitions not installing

Last Week w/c 19 / 07 / 2004 i run my Live Update in Nortons Antivirus 2003 which came with my Dell when i purchased and i recieved 2 updates, one being the Definitions, another named Redirect (or something, cant remember full name). Since then everytime i go to Live Update, i get Definitions to download and install ( which Live Update comfirms it has been installed) but after installing Nortons does not update the date for Virus Defintions in the System Status part. Then when i go back to Live Update and get updates straight after installing, i get the same definitions to download and install again.

Everything was fine and working before i installed the Redirect file.

Has anyone had this recently, maybe you have not noticed.Has anyone got any answers?

Please help.

I have had no problems with Live update after downloading the redirect update, I have downloade several updates since then (latest dated yesterday).

You could try downloading and installing updates manually, using intelligent updater instead of live update.

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/docid/2002021908382713?OpenDocument&src=sec_web_nam

You might also search the Symantec knowledgebase or try the automated support assistant

http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/support_options.html (make sure you allow its activeX components to install).

The virus definition updates are in subfolders at

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs

you could see what you have there (the folder names indicate the date of the update (only the most recent few are kept by NAV).

ok thanks for that, i have just emailed symantec on a solution plus looked in their knowledge base for a solution.

I will try the manual update now to see if that works.

Will let you know of the outcome.
