Returning desktop - Does this matter?

Hi,

I shipped a desktop back to Dell yesterday, and everything regarding components (hardware, CDs, manuals, etc.) were included and the box was secured very well.

However, when I first got the product I reformated to Windows XP Home (from MCE) because there was a lot of advertisements. I told the customer support person, and she said that as long as I had the CDs included it didn't matter if the ads were gone.

Well, I put all the CDs it came with in the box (it did not come with a restore CD) and like I said I shipped it.

Tell me, are they going to be mean about it and say I need the advertisement-infested media center version? It's not like it's hard to reinstall the operating system, which I presume they do anyway, and if thats the only reason they send it back (because there is no other reason they would), do I have to go into a big production?

The support has been very good thus far, and I would hate for it to end over something as easily fixed as this. It is not my fault it didn't come with a restore CD.

You should be fine. Dell computers are shipped without the reinstallation disk, unless you ordered it.

Question, why did you return the system?

    Bev.

So it doesn't matter if it isn't media center edition?

Oh, and I returned it because I wasn't completely satisfied with performance. Nothing to do with damage or anything, I just wanted to get a better system.

    Well that's to be expected.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

As long as all the components charged on the invoice are returned and are undamaged, you should be alright.

Guess that Dell will be charging you a restocking fee.

By the way, does anyone know if they will call me when they receive it? I would like to know if everything is OK.

If not, do I have to call them when it arrives? (guaranteed tomorrow since it is express delivery.)

They won't call you, you don't call them, you'll get a credit within 30 days after they receive it.

I didn't think it was 30 days, they said Wednesday.

In fact, does this mean they completed it? Or the returned it? It's pretty confusing.
