Try pressing the Windows key and hit R.

EDIT: Sorry, insufficient help. Try right clicking the start button and selecting Properties. In the Start menu tab, click customize, then check the box next to Run.

Bless you Osprey4 for your most thoughtful quick response. I followed your advise but these is no run button in the customized section of the task bar any further ideas. Bless you or anyone who might help me with this problem...

See if this helps you, it's Number 57, the one on the right "Restore Run Command" this site is used and virus free, I use it daily for years. Click on "Restore Run Command" Save, Locate where you saved it and double click on it, answer the pop up prompt. Good Luck! Mick

Thanks so much for your help but this to did not bring up "run" on my start menu. It's a mystery to me and becoming very exhausting. Bless you to for taking time to help a newbie. Hopefully Dell techies will have some answers this time around.:

From the Start button, right-click and select File Finder... Then type in CMD.EXE. When it finds it in C:\windows\system32, open it from there and you'll get the cmd box, but this won't get you msconfig!  To open msconfig use the same instructions as above (Start button, right-click and select File Finder... Then type in MSCONFIG.EXE). Open the one in C:\windows\ Software distribution........... And msconfig should open.

I'm beginning to suspect something nepharious. Have you got all your virus definitions up to date? Checked for spyware and trojans?

    Did the Windows-R thing work?
