This is my first PC, picked it up from a local who's moving. the computer currently has LINUX installed, so I'm trying to get XP on it instead. Using a Dell XP Pro installation disc, I figured out how to enter BIOS and make the CD drive the first option for booting up. after the blue dell screen, the computer tells me to press any key to boot from CD. I press a key (usually space bar) and then computer says "Setup is inspecting your system configuration". that disapears and then nothing happens.
What do I do? Any help is appreciated. Ideally, I'd like to whipe this HD clean and install XP on it, but anyway to get it working with XP is good enough for me.
The latest BIOS available for an XPS T___ sytem is A011, available
here. I don't know whether that will solve your problem or not, but when you boot from the CD you should not see a blue Dell screen. The first screen that should appear is a black screen with the "Press any key to boot from CD..." message and the "Setup is inspecting..." message should not appear.
You should also be aware that if you are using a Dell XP reinstallation CD you will not be able to activate XP even if you get it installed, as that copy is licensed for use only on the computer with which it was sold.
