I have a Dell 8400 with A03 Bios dated 10-11-04. When I tried to start my computer this morning, I received the message "unmountable boot volume." I have never had any problems with this computer before. I tried changing the boot sequence to skip USB drives, but this did not help.
I am running chkdsk /r in recovery using my XP cd. It has been running for 1 hour and is only at 55%! Does this normally take this long? Is it safe to leave it running? It's almost time to leave work. :)
Assuming that this is successful, should I update my bios?
I went into work today. CHDSK was finished, and I was able to boot up in safe mode. I then was able to back up important files on a DVD and run my virus scanner. Nothing found. Hopefully, when I boot up on Monday everything will be OK.
