You can download FREE Microsoft program called TweakUI for XP+ SP1 from; http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp Use "Logon" > "Unread Mail" , "Apply setting to all users" ---------- If you use Dial-up the option to Hold the Internet connection is also useful when you re-start Windows (ie: Log OFF then Log ON) or Switch Users Also useful when Windows freezes or you need to re-start Windows after a program is installed.
Select "Logon" , tick "Keep RAS connections after you logoff" -------------- You can also add this by using Registry Editor HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon use Edit, New > String Value & enter text KeepRasConnections
Unfortunately the TweakUI does not work. Tried all kinds of combinations. Thanks anyway. As far as the registry edit, is it "regen"...it's been a while
Do you mean you can't Install TweakUI or the "Unread Mail" settings "Show unread mail on Welcome screen" "Abandoned after" x days & "Apply setting to all users" didn't work. ? If you logon to account that doesn't show any "Unread Mail" & use Registry Editor to navigate to HKEY HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail it will show the account below HKEY which is being checked. To use Registry Editor press Windows+R keys together then type regedit click OK or press Enter key. If you don't want to navigate to HKEY click on "Edit" > "Find..." & type unreadmail then with "Look at" , "Keys" box ticked , click "Find Next" if it doesn't stop at the HKEY above press F3 to continue Find Next.
You do the same for account account that works & see if it OE account or a Hotmail account as I think its Hotmail.set by NET Passport. ?
If you logon to account that doesn't show any "Unread Mail" & use Registry Editor to navigate to HKEY
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
it will show the account below HKEY which is being checked.
To use Registry Editor press Windows+R keys together then type
regedit click OK or press Enter key.
If you don't want to navigate to HKEY click on "Edit" > "Find..." & type unreadmail
then with "Look at" , "Keys" box ticked , click "Find Next"
if it doesn't stop at the HKEY above press F3 to continue "Find Next"
OK what does the HKEY show for account being checked that doesn't work & what does your working account show as being checked. ?
double click on above HKEY & the account being checked in any , will show below HKEY.
--------------- If you use "Control Panel" > "User Accounts" then click on account , then select "Manage my network passwords" it will again show the account Email address used.

Thanks for all the help. I will try your suggestion later today. However, this TweakUI exe. Is this Microsoft's? When I try to uninstall it says that malicious script has been found. The error message directs me to abandon the uninstall.
Then it isn't checking any Email account for that user Logon If you Logon with the working account that gets checked it will show the Email accounts that is being checked below HKEY HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
Mine shows the Email address I used to setup NET Passport.
