this is kind of off-topic for the forum, but i want to know, if i am disconnecting a USB-connected device from a computer in preparation for reformatting the computer, is there any special process that you have to use when disconnecting USB-connected devices, like printers or scanners?
Most USB devices are hot-swappable. That means that you can unplug them from your system while its running. (I'm presumming your using XP and there isn't a icon in the start bar by the clock that says safely remove hardware.)
Along the same thread ... When I have a usb "thumb" drive attached to a port while rebooting and I hit F12 (one time boot menu) among the options that appear is an option to boot from the flash drive. How do you make a usb flash drive bootable?
You CAN easily dissconnect a scanner/printer that way. To be safe tho, if undoing a flash drive/external HDD or the like, you should stop the device first. When you first plug in a USB device,an icon appears near the clock in the tray.Dbl click that, highlight the USB device you wish to shut down/remove, click stop, then remove it when it says it is safe to do so.
