Hello I recently had to format my computer, I reinstalled everything except in device manager it says the SM bus controller drivers need to be reinstalled, also it says the universal bus contoller drivers also need reinstalling, I have a dell demension desktop 4500s windows xp 256 mb sdram P4 @1.8GHz
sm bus controller sounds like smart media. Did you add a card reader to your system? The drivers will be with the device you installed or get them from the manufactures web site
I did install a video graphic card but XP apperently was having a conflic w/ the drivers that were on the CD so I removed the drivers and card sence my first post I called teck supp. and was told to down laod a patch and chip set wich i did but it still says in device man. the universal bus controller drivers need reinstalling.
I could not find it so I had to go to dell.com and I did down the chipset but I'm still showing an yellow questionmark that when I click on it it tells me I need to redownload the drivers?
To answer stegve"s question, I am refering to the Universal Bus Controllers, in responce to volcano's reply I down-loaded this file twice and it's still says to redownload I guess I need to try and download the SP1 1st.
Normally the chipset drivers should be the first drivers installed after a reinstallation of Windows. In order to get USB to work, you may also need to update to SP1 from the Microsoft Update site.
You keep saying that you downloaded the drivers, but you don't say whether you have installed them. Simply downloading the chipset drivers drivers will do nothing. You have to install them. Again, the chipset drivers usually must be the first drivers installed after reinstallation of Windows. Anything built into the motherboard, like USB ports, will not work until the chipset drivers are installed.
