Very Serious Problem...

I had some problems with the OS on the computer, and to deal with that I tried to repair the files with my backup CD that I got when the computer was delivered. The installation/repair was half way through when a critical error message pops up saying I can't install a certain thing from the the CD, I believe it was the "product catalog", or such. But here is the problem, it says I should reboot the computer, but the error pops up again. So the computer is stuck on the installation part and won't get any further. Is there a way to cancel the installation? Or any other method? Please help.

    NewbieAHHH,

Were you trying to do a reinstallation of Windows XP? If so, you may have begun the process from within Windows rather than booting from the CD which will cause problems. See if the procedure given here is helpful.

If you were trying to do a Repair reinstallation you still need to boot from the CD. See this.

All my boot settings are checked in, including the bootdisk. The installing was going fine, intil I got to the installing part itself, ya know, when installing it shows the steps on the left side, for ex. Dynamic Upgrading, yeah, the thins is stuck on "Installing Windows XP" which is step four I believe. anyway of cancelling the windows install process?

    NewbieAHHH ,

You XP installation CD is corrupted or damanged. You need to try with a different installation CD. If your system in warranty, you may contact Dell techncial support for a replacement. I cannot say for sure wheather they will replace the CD, but i suggest you to contact them in this regard.

    Thanks
