Windows Mail Message blocking other email

When I send and receive on Windows mail - newly set up - it starts receiving until it gets to message 7 of 47.  Then it will continue to say receiving message 7 indefinitely - and never gets beyond that.

What can I do to get rid of message 7 and finally get to the other 46 messages?

How long is that? If someone sent you a really large e-mail attachment you may have to wait a bit. Does it ever get a timeout message while downloading this message? Let it run over night and see what happens.

It certainly seemed like indefinitely.  It did seem to correct itself - after 12 hours or so, though I still did not get the remaining 40 some messages.

And now it's doing it again.  I've been receiving a message now for about 2 hours.  This time I can see the green bar moving so that I feel it will eventually be received.  However - I'm not aware of any large messages being sent to me - and even if it only takes 3 hours to receive a message, that still feels completely unacceptable.   Never happened on my old machine with Outlook Express!  What can I do to prevent it happening now?

I wish I could help more, I have no idea what is causing your mail downloading problems... Maybe someone else will chip in some information.

Thanks, but it's still happening!  It's been receiving message 2 of 4 since Friday!  I've tried changing email options and account options - and it's still stuck!  This is really screwing up my productivity!
