Windows Media Player 10

I recently downloaded and installed SP2 and Windows Media Player 10. Now "Search" won't work in Windows and Media Player won't even open. I don't know if the two downloads are related.

When I try to uninstall Windows Media Player 10 (thinking I might be able to go back to Media Player 9, which worked fine) Windows Media Player is not even listed in the Add/Remove Programs area of my Control Panel.

Dimension 4550, Windows XP Pro, 1 Gig RAM.

I and others (mostly HP owners) have had a problem where SP2 causes audio errors. Uninstalling SP2 fixes the problem. HP has a patch on their web site which you can find if you go to xpmce.com and search the forums. I have not tried this on a Dell. I spoke to Dell support and they suggested installing the HP patch. I asked if it would cause any adverse problems, given that Dell has not tested it. No answer.

I went ahead and installed the HP patch and then SP2. So far no problems. I will report if I experience any, but for now, if you have no Sound after SP2, you should apply the HP patch.
