Windows Media Player

I just reformatted an older computer and installed Windows Xp and am having problems getting Media Player to play all DVDs.  After the upgrading to Xp there was a note that the DVD Decoder needed upgraded to work with Xp.

I've come up with a number of options (InterVideo, Nvidia and others), and would appreciate any input on which to go with.  (I assume that I will have to "buy" a decoder?)/

Thanks.

The DVD decoder usually comes as a piece of software bundled with your DVD player. Theoretically, you should have one that came with your DVD player, if it is the DVD player that was originally installed on your system, then it may be located on the original setup/installation CD's.

If you don't have the original CD (which should have a decoder and be potentially upgraded), then you may need to look into DVD software. Some common DVD programs include PowerDVD, WinDVD. But I would look around and see if you can find the original software that came with your PC or DVD player and see if you can update that program to a XP compatible version.
