Windows Processes

Does anyone know where I can find an explanation of the Windows processes that are displayed in Task Manager? I've tried about 3 different web sites - two of then said that svchost was a trojan virus and should be removed immediately; the other said it was an essential system process. Where I can get some reliable information? Thanks.

Svchost is an essential process. I use www.processlibrary.com. So far the only discrepancy I've found on that site, is that they say nvcpl is a virus when it's really just the startup process for nvidia display adapters.

svchost could be a trojan if it's in any folder other than c:\i386 and c:\windows\system32 on your hard drive. Some trojans use that name to hide, but they're not in the 'normal' XP locations.

Also, s cvhost.exe is the W32/Agobot-S virus. And -if you don't read carefully- you may think it says s vchost, the name of the legit windows file.
