windows product key

i used a product key viewer and found a product key which is different from the product key found on the COA sticker on my computer.i believe this is the volume key dell used to pre-activate windows.so if i were to reinstall windows on my computer, which product key should i use to activate windows?

i wish to have a key that allows me to activate windows unlimited times when i do multiple reinstallation of windows.

i think i should use the volume key but will it work?

note sure about which key to use, but with the average joe, you only have a limited amount of free installs before you have to call microshaft...its a pain,,,but thats what i have to do....i sometimes format my computer 4 times a month..just messing with linux..etc

Using the Dell Branded Disk on a Dell Branded PC with the BIOS SLIP Code you should not be asked for a key and will not have to activate via Microsoft ever. They should all use the volume license that is precoded in the install disk.

The only exceptions are the Express upgrade disk for Vista that was offered before Vista came out which is a standard Upgrade OEM disk and will require activation.

You should not be asked to enter a key or to activate if you use the Dell Reinstallation CD on a Dell that came with XP . . but occasionally, you will.  Use the Product key on the sticker . . the one the keyfinder reports will not work

Three votes for "no key needed" with a Dell branded OEM disc.

M/S seems to have made some changes to the activation process for OEM's . . I have had to call to get activated the last few times I used my OEM disc with SP3 and IE7 slipstreamed.  ( not Dells ) . . but the call is quick and easy
