I have Windows 2000 Pro and am the only user of this laptop as the "Administrator".

 

Recently the "Start/Search/For Files and Folders" fuction has been partially inoperative.  When the search fails to find a file, I open that folder containing the file and copy the file to the desktop. Then I do the search again and the search finds the file on the desktop OK.  When search cant find any file in a folder, I copy that folder into a newly created folder, then search finds all of the files in that new folder OK.  Also I can't find files that I have downloaded when in Yahoo Messenger.  Before this problem started I could search for Yahoo Profile names and find pictures and messages that were dowloaded during a Yahoo session. Now those files are no longer to be found.

 

I may have caused this problem by doing lots of file and folder reorganizing, i.e. moving files from folder to folder.  But I have run the DOS CHKDSK/R and it reports no problems.

 

Any suggestions will be greatly apperciated
