I have noticed that when I start up windows, it takes about 6 seconds for the start button and task bar to appear. I know that there are many factors that affect how long it takes for windows to start up and I was thinking that my virus software might be the cause of the problem. I have AVG 7.5, however I don't know what I would be looking for to determine if the problem is with AVG. I have the free edition, however since I do, tech support is not available and I'm not able to locate the forum boards that I used months ago to solve another problemt that involved microsoft word hanging at the splash screen.

Assuming you're talking from the time you press the power-on button... 6 seconds... what are you complaining about?? that's amazingly fast, from my perspective. how much "leaner" do you expect to make it?
i'd certainly be interested in hearing from anyone who's start-button & task-bar [and full windows desktop with all icons (???)] appear any faster...
I keep forgetting to be detailed on here. Anyway, the 6 seconds that I'm talking about is right when the windows desktop appears and everything starts to load up.
It be not be a big deal. The only reason that I bring it up is because I reinstalled windows a while back and I reinstalled certain software. When I booted to windows, the start button and task bar would appear instantly and now that is not the case, but as I said, it may not be a big deal. I was wondering if there was something that is causing the slowdown.
