Windows XP Pro SP2 Reinstall...

Hey guys,

My friend just got a Dimm9100 with Windows Xp Pro SP2 (with media) and he has a genuine Windows Xp Pro SP2 disk that he used to install on his other pc.  His question is, Is he allowed to use the serial number from the sticker on his pc (dimm9100) but use the win disk to reinstall a fresh copy of windows because he doesn't like any of the stuff that comes with it (the extra software)?

Thanks in advance.

If he has the media, why use the other one?  The XP disc does not contain anything but the OS and none of the Dell extras.

    mkAlias,

To reiterate what jmwills state, the Dell XP Reinstallation CD contains a copy of Windows XP and nothing else.

Ohh, he didn't get a dell cd with his pc.  He did the restore from his hard drive (shift+control+F12) or something like that in hopes of getting a clean version but its the same, with media.  He doesn't have a dell restore cd or the dell windows cd and he can't create one either since his pc doesn't have the "dell create a cd utility thing".  Is there a way to download the dell create a clean copy of windows cd unility? or can he use the win xp cd that he already has and only use the serial thats glued to his pc?

    mkAlias,

You can't download an operating system but you can request one from Dell. See this. Normally takes less than a week to receive the CD.

Thats the reason though.  He doesn't want the media that comes with the dell he wants the system "clean" with no extras such as norton internet security (its a triel and he doesn't care for it) and he doesn't want his drive cluttered up with trial software since he has the originals (office 03, macromedia studio 8, and alias maya 7.  He has the retail software and doesn't want the mumbo jumbo that comes with it because he really wants his pc not to have anything on except the software that he has and needs for work, (he's an animator).

So how would he be able to restore his pc so he doesn't have any media on it? :(

His pc was ordered through the small business section, so I don't think he can get the cd through the home and office help center.  I wasn't asking for a os I was asking if the utility to create 1 DELL os could be downloaded?

A system ordered thru the SBC came without media?  That's odd.  Either get Dell to send you the XP disc or image the system with Ghost or another such program, store that image, and then delete the program syou don't want.

your friend did no look hard enough... if he wants to make a cd he just needs to go to Start>All Programs>Dell Accessories>Dell OS Recovery CD then place a disc into his pc then make a OS cd.
