Windows XP Pro Upgrade

I would like to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 1100 Notebook to Windows XP Professional. I do not wish to have to re-install all of the software that came installed on my Laptop or the software I installed later. Is it possible to buy the dell upgrade to Windows XP Pro and do an upgrade instead of a new install which would wipe out all of my settings. Let me know if this is possible and any suggestions. You can respond here or at william_kochevar@msn.com. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might be able to provide me.

William Kochevar.

Yes, I am using Windows XP Home and want to upgrade to XP Pro. I do not believe it should be a big deal, and I want to make sure first.

What operating system are you using now?  Don't know about buying from Dell, but as far as the upgrade, the short answer is yes . . but most of the problems reported on this forum are a result of an upgrade, rather than a clean install.  In either case, be sure you back up all perishable data and write down passwords and settings so that you have them if something goes wrong.

If you are using XP Home now, you can use the files and settings transfer wizard to save your files and settings.

    good luck . . wrs
