Windows XP won't start

when I start computer you can click on the user but from there it goes to blue Dell screen, windows xp won't start.

Help!! I bought it new for my grandaughter for christmas and now it won't work!

tried both users still comes up with blue screen with Dell on it. no error messages

Hello,

Lets make this a little more clear. When Windows XP boots up to the user page. You click on a user name and all that loads is the Dell Wallpaper (Looks like tiles), correct? Is there more than one user? Have you tried another user if there is more than one? Any error messages? Has any new software or hardware been added recently?

His best bet is to run System Restore as far back as he can, then run a virus scan, an Adare scan, and the SFC command. If someone can give him the step-by-step for running SR from Safe Mode with Prompt or whatever it is; my recall is poor.
