Please make a manual restore point.

right click my computer/manage/services and applications/services

and check if the distributed transactions coordinator,remote procedure call (RPC), the security accounts manager services are running.

( the defaults are manual; (may need to be started or changed to auto),auto,auto.)

thx for replying, i've tried out the instructions u have recommeneded.

it seems COM+ services require some dependancies which somehow i've disabled. RPC is auto and is running when i checked. only the distributed transactions and security accounts is disabled.

NOW THEY ARE SET TO AUTO, and are running. (from a system restart after setting them to AUTO)

in Event Viewer, under the application tab it shows info of the MSDTC service running. heres info:

Question: what exactly is all these? are they vital?

but i guess it somehow solved the problem i dont see anymore COM+ errors. yet. :)

Also, instead of making another thread i'll just ask here as well. In event viewer under system tab, i get sporadic DCOM errors. Heres what the most current one says:

The COM+ Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) service coordinates transactions that update two or more transaction-protected resources, such as databases, message queues, file systems, and so on. These transaction-protected resources may be contained on a single system or distributed across a network of systems.

In applications developed to use distributed transactions, concurrent work done by multiple clients, components, and databases can be managed to help protect the applications against failures. Within a distributed transaction, either all the work done by participating components happens or none of it does, simplifying tracking and error recovery because no loose ends are left by failures

You must have an application or the system  called it (my msdtc service is set manual but it's started). I would leave this running because you may have an application failures and then you may wonder why.

For more info on this service goto:
control panel/administrative tools/component services/computers/my computer/dtc and right click properties. choose help.
You may find there your transactions list.

The event log  recorded your operating parameters (settings). I would not modify these unless you really know what to do.

stisvc - stisvc.exe - Process Information
Process File: stisvc or stisvc.exe
Process Name: Still Image Service
Description: The Still Image Service handles scanners and digital cameras and is installed by Windows if a Scanner or Camera is connected to the computer

That is Windows image acquisition "WIA" service.  Find it in your list of services in computer management and start it  if need be. ( You can also type in a dos window       net start     and press enter this will give you the list. If you type net start stisvc  it will start it   , net stop stisvc   will stop it.)

The default is manual but it may need  to be set to auto if you have a scanner or camera.

could be missing, unplugged, etc device. This device MAY need to be re-installed.

thx for that bit of info on MSDTC. all these jargo is just beyond me :/ As for the vent viewer info, i didnt touch/modify those settings let alone WHERE/HOW to.

Hmm as for the STILL IMAGE SERVICE, im stumped as i DO NOT have any scanners/digital cams connected to this PC. Could it be some other device rather than those? Printers? i dont usually ON my printer unless i need it. Nevertheless, i'll set it to manual so it will start by itself when the service is needed.

I recently reinstalled Windows XP. Now I have in the event viewer, the following errors.

The COM + Event System failed to fire the connection made NOQOC Info method on subscription The subscriber returned HRESULT 80010105

and

The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I have all windows updates installed, and everything seems fine. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about.
