If you switch the controller mode, the OS will no longer boot without changing the boot configuration manually.  Do not try this without a complete backup:

It's not likely the mode is at fault here -- you will likely want to run a full Dell diagnostic on the system, and in particular the drive.  F12 at powerup.

Report any errors you see by number (2000-0151, etc.), along with the model information (XPS 9530, 9570, etc.).

Sounds like a symptom that has occurred before and a hard drive firmware update fixed the problem.

Since that model is so new "Release date 13th May 2020" there is only one drive update and it's for the Micron 2200S.

I assume that it is still under warranty.

Have you contacted Tech Support to see what they have to say???

Sorry its the XPS 17 9700.

Hard drive I believe PC611 NVMe SK hynix 1 TB ssd

 

The error is always on startup and has happened 5 times, the first time on August 10.  The error has not as yet happened while the computer is in use.  Same error code each time. 2000-0155, with same recommendation to update BIOS and Reseat the drives internally.  I updated to the latest BIOS but am not comfortable opening the computer as this is a new device and I don't want to  do something to invalidate the warranty, this is for Dell techs to do in my opinion. I have also made sure I updated all my drivers.

I have run the F12 diagnostics all test and Disk Drive specific, several test from Quick, Advanced and Thorough Mode.  All come back as passed, no issues. Have also run the Support Assist Diagnostics from Windows and no issue is detected.
