Switching from Windows to Linux Ubuntu

Is there a step by step procedure that I can follow as to how to install Linux Ubuntu on my SSD.  I want to first set up a recovery key to back up all my windows files before completely erasing it from my drive. I have tried following the steps on this page: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000131655/how-to-install-ubuntu-linux-on-your-dell-pc#Install_Ubuntu_on_your_System, but I usually end up in a situation where Ubuntu cannot be located on the physical drive upon trying to boot into the operating system. Any help would be much appreciated.

Try this video for installing Ubuntu. And this one if you might want to dual boot Windows and Ubuntu.

I watched the first video but it's really not that straightforward on dell xps.  Switching the UEFI mode generates problems for me. Even after installing ubuntu on the drive, for some reason the computer is not able to reboot back into the operating system.
