I have an XPS 13 9350, and I am having issues with the touchpad. For the most part, it tracks and clicks fine with occasionally getting stuck as if its confused with the touchscreen. But thats not my problem. My issue is that I cannot click and drag anything from the touchpad. Selecting text, moving a file, and resizing windows I have to do entirely from the touchscreen. This is very problematic because I use some 3d modelling and photoshop applications which require me to drag things around but also dont support the touchscreen input. I have tried running the troubleshooter and having windows reinstall the drivers for the touchpad, and the issue persists. I looked on dells driver page for specific drivers for the touchpad, and they dont even have any. Does anyone know how I could fix this?
It is very common for touchpad issues to be the first sign of a battery that's starting to swell. Remove the base cover and check the condition of the battery. If it's at all swollen, it should be removed from the system and disposed of safely -- as soon as possible.
Thanks but it's not the battery. I have had the laptop open before and the battery looked ok. I am still able to depress the trackpad anyway. I think it's some sort of driver/software issue but I can't find any support for it
Around the same time as you the mechanical press on my trackpad stopped working. At first I could not press at all and it did not respond to touch either. Then touch came back and is now working, and I am able to press it down but it does not respond to that.
It is definitely a hardware issue of some sort as it is the same in both WIndows and Fedora.
I have not opened it up to check the battery as one poster recommended.
