Aurora R11, RTX 3080, compatible? #3
Hi my current Alienware aurora setup is
Current setup is
10th hen intel i9 10900k (10core 20mb cache 3.7ghz-5.3ghz with thermal velocity boost
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 super 8gb gddr6(Oc ready)
16gb dual channel hyper X fury ddr4 xmp at 3200MHZ up to 64gb
1TB m.2 PCle NvME SSD
Lunar chassis with high performance liquid cooling and 1000W power supply
im wondering if I can upgrade this current graphics card I have to a 3080. Thanks

I’ve been informed multiple times that the configure I got is indeed the Nvidia RTX 3080 Founders Edition

Uhhhh, there are prior posts on these boards about people told by Dell/Alienware customer service they were getting the "Founders Edition" of the 2000 series, then frustrated when that's not what actually comes in their case.
The Founders Edition of the 3080 and 3090 doesn't fit in the case, and the fan setup would be a huge problem. And Dell does OEM versions of all its components regardless.
I wouldn't be placing any bets on you actually seeing a 3080 Founders Edition in the R11 case. And I'd be really curious who you're talking to and word-for-word what they're saying.
For what it's worth, the 3070 Founders Edition should fit, but I still wouldn't try it in the R11 case because of the fan placement and what would happen with the case structure (especially the PSU).

I’ve asked the sales people multiple times so that I have some kind of clarity with what graphics card is the 3080 if founders or 3rd party and they’ve all told me they have a exclusive deal with nvidia for the 3080 and they are FE

Dell: "This is not 3rd party. This is exclusively from NVIDIA." I suspect he doesn't understand your question and means that it is Dell OEM. The consensus seems to be that the FE is a little too long for the Aurora case and would also generate too much heat. (Would be happy to be wrong on this, as I would otherwise be trying to get one myself!)2739

In fact, it is unambiguous from the Dell website that the RTX 3080 is NOT the FE ("PRODUCT DETAILS" tab in the Dell store): "Engineered for efficiency: These custom graphics card designs, included in both NVIDIA® GeForce™ RTX 3080 and 3090 graphics, are built with space efficiency with a max length of just 267mm that covers a 2.5x slots and offers a dual 6-pin/8-pin PCI-Express power connectors." (The FE is 285mm.)2727

But lucky you, you're getting an RTX 3080 - not the FE, but does it matter? You're getting one that fits in the case and won't cause the internals to melt. Wish I could!

The Founders Edition card is too long, and would have airflow problems with the fan placement.
Third party manufacturers (in particular Gigabyte) have announced blower designs of the 3080 and 3090 that should fit the case, but they're not yet publicly available. And Dell has started selling R11's with 3080 and 3090 cards, which means they've come up with someone who has manufactured a version that fits the case as well.
Anyway, yes, there should eventually be a version that fits. But right now the only way to get your hands on a new 3080 or 3090 that works with the R11 is to order a fully new R11 from Dell with shipment date in another month or so. And the builds they've had so far with the cards, when available, have tended to be maxed out setups in the $4000-$5000 range.
