15 R3, overheating ?
Hello,
I have my alienware 15 r3 since summer 2017.
It always have been hot when playing a game. But I begin to wonder if it is normal.
I am playing Dragon Quest XI with great settings.
It is hard to play with the keyboard cause of the heat.

Hi @HmFlashy,
Is the system showing performance issues, throttling?
Make sure the BIOS is up to date. Also, can you please run the game and reply with the temps as you did on the original post, but also showing the average result of the temperatures?

I took the screenshot when I was playing the game. The average temp was 88.
The bios is up to date. And I cleaned the fans recently.

I saw that the heat pipe is using the keyboard to cool the pc. But yeah, it can get very warm sometimes.
Maybe it is normal,I don't know. I cleaned the fans recently.

my gtx 1070 never reach over 70 degree but i see cpu always above 90 :( and i dont think " gtx 1060 reaching out 90 degree is normal //"

As the coffeelake processor supports higher clock rate than kabylake or older processors, you may easily notice that the Alienware 13R3, 15R3, 15R4, 17R4, 17R5 generates more heat compared to previous generation platforms. Therefore Dell engineering optimized the system to tolerate higher temperature from design perspective, and the new specification for Alienware 15 R4 / 17 R5 is:
CPU peak temperature will be no greater than 100 degree C
Below is the table for the thermal specification in component basis. For Alienware 13R3, 15R3, 17R4, this is applicable with BIOS version S1.0.9_K1.0.1 ,S1.0.9_K1.0.1 or higher.

(degree C)Processor 100 GPU 94 SSD 81/78 * HDD 69/60 * Memory 95 So in your case the video card temps are fine, but the CPU is showing peak of 100. If the system is still in warranty, please send me a PM with the Service Tag, if not, I will advice you to clean the system and fans from any dust, do a repaste and/or replace heatsink.

I am playing Dragon Quest XI. The fans are not even on. I succeed to turn them on manually (without modifying the rotation speed or any modification), and it was better. But the keyboard is still very hot. I think it could come from the GPU fan. From the GPU heat.
