Area-51m R1, won't start

My out of warranty Area-51m R1 recently stopped turning on and I am trying to diagnose what exactly is wrong with it.

With the battery in when I press the power button, the keyboard lights and fans will briefly start, and then after about a second everything will turn off again.

I also tried removing the battery and without it, nothing starts at all.

I am hoping I don't have a motherboard issue but it seems likely. Any chance's just a dead CMOS or something? Any input is appreciated.

The adapter lights are working fine. I also think it's unlikely they both died at the same time as there are two of them. Also, the lights stay on when plugged in.

Tried unplugging everything, holding the power button for 30 seconds, and reconnecting everything but haven't had any luck.

I'll try reseating the ram and changing the battery but first I have to get a new battery.

At 3 years old the CMOS battery is probably fine. Are you sure the adapter is working properly? The system should power on with the battery out but the adapter plugged in. When you plug in the adapter does the light on the adapter turn off? Have you tried a reset, disconnect the battery and the adapter then press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try to boot again. Getting back to the CMOS battery, you can try replacing it with a brand new battery and remember to leave the old one out for 15 minutes before installing the new one. Try reseating the RAM, but before reseating the RAM pull all of it out and try to boot. You should hear beeps or see diagnostic lights signifying that the MB detects no RAM.
