Yes - it is possible to have Celerra Replicator between NS20 and NS350. But, both source and destination NAS units must run same version of replicator - and also same version of NAS code. So, you may have to upgrade the NAS code on existing NS350 to version 5.6.x (the same code level of the new NS20) and then only you can use Celerra Replicator v2. Also you need to have license for Celerra Replicator (V2) and snapsure checkpoint.

And yes, generally even if the system didn't come with 5.5 (and can't be ordered that way), it can be wiped and re-installed with 5.5 as needed.

can he ask for NS20 to come in with 5.5 ( i got mine last December with 5.5.30 so i know it's supported) then migrate from NS350 and upgrade NS20 to 5.6 later on . Just a thought

For the first 90 days after the release of NAS 5.6 (which we're still in for a little while longer), upgrades just need to go through an approval process. In a situation like this, though, there's generally no problem getting upgrade approval. Your local team just needs to go through the process.

Why not just use fscopy?

fs_copy is a file system copy process and not a replication technique on its own. For one time data migration or data copy, you may use fs_copy but for a replication process you need to have Celerra Replicator configured. In fact Celerra Replicator uses fs_copy to perform the initial data copy from source file system to destination file system.

That could work. Even though NS20's come from the facory with 5.6 pre-installed and normally shouldnt be re-installed its possible for the customer engineer to do that.

Just talk to your local EMC technical contact early enough
