we are planning to migrate file systems from celerra to celerra which are on different networks. So, how can we migrate from source celerra to destination celerra.Is FCIP used or what is the exact procedure to implement the migration.

if these are routable networks and you can reach one Celerra from another and vise verse ..i don't see why not.757

we are not using any FCIP only public network for data migration. So, can we go
with celerra replicator which are on different networks.

If you have acelerra gateway, and the backend is connected to a SAN maybe you can replicate the data via SAN environment using, for example, SnapClone.

Hi,
using backend copy or migration tools for Celerra file systems is not supported and can get you into trouble
plesase dont try unless you have written permission (RPQ) from EMC

Starting with 5.6.47 out of family celerra replicator is supported. There may be some caveats to this so I would check the release notes and possibly open a case with support...assuming the two celerras are licensed properly, of course!
If dedupe is in the future ... turn that on prior to creating rolling snapshots on the "new production" machine and you'll avoid mushrooming the savvol space as well.

be carefull there - it is not as ouf of family as you might think or wish
it was mainly designed to that you could upgrade multiple systems from 5.5 to 5.6 without having to upgrade them all at the same time and run the IP repV1 to RepV2 conversion at that time
while in OOF mode you cannot create new replications between 5.5 and 5.6
it wont help in situations where one of the systems is already running 5.6 and doesnt have the replication already established

Hi,
I just want to confirm, if you will use celerra replicator to migrate data to another celerra, does all the permissions of source file system will also be replicated to the destination file system?

For data migration - there are quite a few options available and proper planning and considerations are very much important depending on your environment and requirement. You may engage local EMC team or EMC PS team to help you with the migration effort accordingly.
You can always consider using host based copy utitilies as well - EMC also provides EMcopy tool along with few other CIFS tools (like sharedup for copying all shares) available in the Tools & Application CD provided with the NAS. For Windows data, you need to copy the permissions as well - which EMCopy or Robocopy or SecureCopy does.
Anyway, Celerra Replicator can also very well used for migration - or a combination of Replicator and host based tools.
