cifs /.etc
I have a plan to replace the current Celerra by a EMC VNX storage.
Before that, need to clarify some points on /.etc folder found on each shares.
We have found .etc folder on each shares ( /dst_share9/IV8, /dst_share10/IV9 … ). seems to be EMC config files for replication.
As we have recently activated a disk monitoring process which will delete the orphan files not identified by our application, those config files will be considered as orphans and will be deleted by our monitoring app. And the files are already been removed from IV17 by this app. Other shares IV8 to IV16 still have those files as we temporarily disabled the monitoring application.
In the previous shares from IV1 to IV6, those config files are located in one level upper which are safer. We need the same config on newer shares as well. Newer volumes have those files on the actual shares accessed by the hosts which need to be moved to the upper level so that our application will not touch those files.
Please advise if those files are important for Celerra functionality, if yes, kindly move them to another locations not shown to the hosts.
