SPs and Windows patching

True or False?

"the SP’s are Windows Servers and the reason for flare upgrades and such is to patch or fix Windows errors"

Thanks...

I don't believe so, the arrays effectively run 2 operating systems. There's a stripped down version of Windows Storage Server (according to the label on our SPs) and FLARE. From what I've read FLARE is UNIX based, when an SP boots up it initially boots into Windows and then loads the FLARE operating environment.I've never had an engineer tell me we need to upgrade FLARE because of a new Windows patch.

True and False. Flare upgrades are to either introduce new features (like Unipshere for flare 30) or to fix issues discovered (patch upgrades). Some of the patches may also contain fixes for Micorsoft specific issues discovered. So flare updates can contain both fixes for flare issues and fixes for MS issues. The controller OS is an embedded version that have been modified to EMC's use (such as removing things not needed).
