FMA netbios name resolution
I'm struggling to add fileservers to FMA due to name resolution issues.
We have our FMA sat in a different domain to the CIFS servers that need adding to FMA. The FMA networking is configured to point at the domain DNS servers, but without any ability to configure a DNS suffix search order on the FMA it can only resolve FQDNs 'Fully Qualifed Domain Names'.
When adding a fileserver to FMA the only option is to enter the Netbios name which cannot be resolved by the FMA.
We have looks at the /etc/hosts file which does get around the problem if you manually edit Netbios details - however this is an automatically generated file and therefore not suitable for editing as a permanent solution.
Has anyone else face similar problems with name resolution when the FMA resides in a different domain..??
Sorry, the adding a new Netbios name and IP address is fine - it's the susequent DNS lookup that fails if the fileserver added sits in a different domain to the FMA. In this instance only FQDN resolution works.
I'm sure this would work if the FMA could be configured with a DNS suffix search order.
The FMA version we have is 7.4b102

When you are adding a new file server, you are asked for a Netbios name and below that you can add the IP address. Enter both pieces of information for the file server. Does that help? If not, what version of FMA are you running?
