Projecting growth

Hi there,

Does Compellent Storage Centre or Enterprise Manager have an easy way for me to look at volumes and see how much they have grown over the last year or so?

As I need to project growth for the next year and maybe further on.

I have found the Storage Centre Online Storage outputs for volume growth per day etc, to be highly inaccurate. Teh volume growth/day field no way shows how much is being used on average per day. If I was to use that figure I would end up with figures that were wildly inaccurate?

Maybe I am looking at it wrong, as I am pretty new to Compellent

    Hello piedthepiper,

Do you have the data progression option licensed for your SC or no?  The reason I ask is that if you have data progression Licensed then you will want to look at the Data Progression Report to get an understanding of how much space that your data is consuming.  With a Compellent system that is running data progression will move the data that is access not as often to a lower tier of storage.  By looking at Data Progression Pressure Report it will show you all Tiers of storage and how much space is consumed by volumes, replays and shows how much data is also moving between Tiers.  Also with the Progression reports you have the ability to go back to a different date & see how your data was allocated and you can compare that to your current report.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Sam,

Yes we have data progression and I use those reports daily. My main issue is there doesn't seem to be a solid way to look at growth over lets say the last 3 months and see what has grown and how and then maybe out put it int a pdf/excel. So I can clearly see what has been growing and project it for the future?

    I hope that makes sense!

Select the volume in question in Storage Manager, select the Historical Usage tab and select the date range you need to look at
