PERC 6i, Raid 10, 1 Virtual Disk limit? why????
I have a PowerEdge 2970 with 6x750gb near line SAS drives hooked up to a PERC 6i. This server is to be a small VMWare ESXi host for a small business, so I wanted to setup all 6 disks into a RAID 10 array. However, this yields 2.06TB, and VMWare has a 2TB LUN limit. No problem I thought, I would just create a 50gb LUN for ESXi, and use the rest for a storage LUN. Well, the PERC 6i only supports 1 VD in Raid 10, 50, and 60. Why???? I can create up to 16 virtual disks with raid 0, 1, 5, or 6. This makes no sense (and works fine on my SAN!)
Does anyone have any work arounds for this? I thought about short stroking the array, but I can't even change the size of the array when creating it. This sucks!
