Isilon DNS problems?

Hello all,

this is my first question in this site, let me apologize in advance if I miss some information or I'm asking something already answered, but I've not found the solution in this site after some time looking for it...

One of our Isilon subnet  (subnet0) is configured like:

Subnet: 172.17.0.0
Netmask: 255.255.0.0
MTU: 1500
Gateway: 172.17.0.253, Priority 1
SmartConnect service IP: 172.17.X.X
VLAN tagging (802.1Q): Disabled
VLAN ID: not set
Hardware load balancing IPs: not set

The address pol:

Zone name: isis.domain.com
Connection policy: Connection Count
SmartConnect service subnet: subnet0
IP allocation method: Dynamic
Rebalance policy: Automatic Failback
IP failover policy: Round Robin

And the SmartConnect

SmartConnect Basic

isis.domain.com

Connection Count

subnet0

SmartConnect Advanced

Dynamic

Automatic Failback

Round Robin

Everything seems ok, but when I ask the DNS server I get something that I don't really understand

$ host isis.domain.com 172.17.X.X

Using domain server:

Name: 172.17.X.X

Address: 172.17.X.X#53

Aliases:

isis.domain.com has address 172.17.Y.Y

Host isis.domain.com not found: 5(REFUSED)

I'm not a DNS expert, but the second line looks weird.

dig output looks better:

$ dig @172.17.X.X isis.domain.com

; <<>> DiG 9.9.5-3-Ubuntu <<>> @172.17.X.X isis.domain.com

; (1 server found)

;; global options: +cmd

;; Got answer:

;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 4564

;; flags: qr aa rd ad; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; WARNING: recursion requested but not available

;; QUESTION SECTION:

;; ANSWER SECTION:

;; WHEN: Wed Nov 12 09:58:56 CET 2014

;; MSG SIZE  rcvd: 45

But I'm worried about the host output...

Anyone could give an explanation about the second line, the one saying "not found"?

Many thanks in advance!

Arnau

Try -v or -d options with the host command,

it will show that a second query for an e-mail server is made ("... IN  MX").

As the Isilon doesn't expect to receive e-mails from outside, nor has it

any idea who else should handle such mails on its behave, that query fails.

The host command simply does too much by default;  if you just

want to query the IP address, use:

    host -t A isis.domain.com 172.17.X.X
