E5580 Frustration

I am pulling my hair out with a E5580 laptop. I am about ready to take it outside and run over it! I bought this laptop from a reseller on Amazon, NIB. It had about 11 months of warranty left when it arrived. I replaced the hard drive with a Samsung SS unit, and it was working well. Following a Windows update, it developed a problem where the display would either go blank or freeze about a minute after it booted. I made numerous attempts at fixing it, but ultimately got frustrated, gave up, and set it aside. I do recall if I booted into safe mode the problem did not happen.

Fast forward about a year. I picked up the laptop again a few days ago, and it still exhibits the same issue. I got it to stay up long enough one time to go in and do a system restore. The entire time it was doing the restore process the laptop worked fine. After about 30 minutes or so it attempted to restart, and it hung during the boot process.

Today, I picked up a new flash drive and downloaded the Win 10 installation tool. It created a bootable USB that I was able to do a clean install on the machine with. Again, during the entire installation process, including multiple restarts, the laptop worked properly. Once the installation process wrapped up and the laptop rebooted, the same problem showed up again. It happened twice while I was going to the Dell support site to check for bios or other driver updates.

I have been a fan of Dell machines for a number of years, but this laptop is moire than trying my loyalty and patience. Any and all ideas welcome!

Thanks!!
