E6420XFR no touchscreen???

Good day all,

Started working on some E6420XFR touchscreen laptops.

I now have 2 in a row that the touchscreen does not work and is not recognized as being installed???

As with all my XFR's I do a BIOS update to version A24.

With these 2 "So far" both have been updated to version A26 which is the E6420 BIOS not the E6420XFR.

https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-e6420-xfr/drivers

Could someone from Dell please remove the E6420 BIOS update from the E6420XFR driver support page!!!!!

I am not sure if this is what caused the touchscreen to disappear but I have tried going back to A09 and then back to A24 with no success.

I know this is a stretch but  has anyone encountered this before???

Could the E6420 BIOS cause this type of problem if it is installed on the E6420XFR???

I do not want to experiment on a good working E6420XFR "YET"

I can install the E6420 BIOS on an E6420XFR to see what the result is but if I can not recover from it I do not want to try yet.

Thanks for any help,

U2

    WOW!!!

    Not one reply.

No long drawn out explanation if the E6420 BIOS can or cannot be installed on an E6420XFR???

No links to other threads that may have a solution???

No colored charts, not even a live with it or purchase a new computer???

I guess I will just bite the bullet and experiment on the worst unit I can find.

Not asking for miracles but maybe someone that actually works on computers would have replied!!!

    Regards,

    U2

    Good day ,

I have The Dell e6420 XFR Touchscreen with BIOS A21 with Windows 10 (built in drivers)

    I dont know if i should update to A24 (Latitude_E6420XFR_A24.exe) or to A26 (Latitude_E6420_E6420ATG_A26.exe)

In the Driver Page of XFR (https://www.dell.com/support/home/es-pe/product-support/product/latitude-e6420-xfr/drivers) shows up BIOS A26 (Latitude_E6420_E6420ATG_A26.exe) (strange name)

Currently i have only one Problem in Windows 10 (Fn Keys) not work Brightness etc..

Maybe with the BIOS A24 or A26 my problem would be solved ...

But i need confirmation please someone who is a Expert.

    Nice Christmas !

Welcome to the Dell Community @Perawima

    Download and install.

    eGalax eMPIA Touchscreen Application:

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=8pv0w&oscode=w764&productcode=latitude-e6420-xfr

    Best regards,

    U2

    Dell:

Please add this driver to the W10 driver list as you have it marked:

"Supported on Latitude E6420 XER running the following Operating Systems: Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 10."

But it is not included if you choose W10 as the Operating System.
