I have purchased an Inspirion 17R 5720. Does any one know if I will experience any problems if I install Linux Mint 14 on it?

Hi RJ78,
This system has not been tested on Linux environment, hence there are no drivers and OS related support provided by Dell.

No. Installing Linux on your system will not void the warranty.
