The R3 comes with a different motherboard and chipset that allows overclocking. The R1 and R2 cannot be overclocked. The 4790k will fit into a 1150 socket but if you have a R1 or R2 you will not be able to overclock the 4790k due to the chipset limitations of the motherboard. Don't know what is confusing about that. Good luck.
Thanks for the response, but I'm still confused, there's was at bios update for the i7 4690k and I've seen another forums were people were taking about having this cpu
But sense the r3 came out I can't see what was offered for the r2 anymore,
I now I can't overclock it, but I'm receivong the i7 4790k tomorrow and I don't wanna put it in if its not going to work
Someone from alienware give me the OK
Thanks

The R1 and R2 models you can't overclock due to the chipset/motherboard. R3's I believe you can overclock but I think the socket wont fit a 4790k.
