Changing laptop screen?
I have an m17x r2 with crossfire 5870m, supposedly 3d capable.
However, how about saving all the hassle of external display, and just changing the lid of the r2 with that of an r3? Will that work?
There's much more to it than changing the panel. Even if it could be done, ie: compatible headers, if the panel fits properly, etc. There's the IR driver module that needs to be plugged into the board.
On top of that the 5870m does not natively support 3D, it relies on 3rd party software to render 3d into two back buffers that the 5870 then displays in sequence.
I don't know if the third party software will support that particular IR driver for the 3d glasses.
It would be a hack job...

In short terms.....
No.
Not to mention the screen sizes and aspect ratios are different. ATI 5870 does not support 3D rendering w/out 3rd party software, which doesnt work that weel anyway..
Nvidia supports 3D.
Easiest thing is an external monitor, or buy an R3.
