Go to SolutionM14x Webcam Issue
Hi, I'm having trouble with the built in webcam on my m14x R1.
I've just done a fresh re-install of Windows 7 (Home Premium).
The device is showing in the windows device manager as a 'Sonix" webcam with drivers installed.
However, it does not seem to be available to any program. I've tried both Live! Central and Dell Webcam Central and both state that no compatible webcam is connected. Similarly Skype cannot find the device.
I've tried the A01 firmware update but it simply states that the update is not required.
Any ideas, solutions?

G.Notman,
Load the firmware.

I should clarify, Skype can see the device but it cannot use it. It shows a message which asks me to try and close other programs which might be using the webcam.
Do you think the device needs replacing? I believe it is on the same board as the dual microphones and the microphones seem to be working fine.
Also do you know where I can find the part number for the webcam board (without opening up the laptop and viewing the attached sticker)? I've seen some websites list it as either 04MYKF or 4MYKF, is that correct?
Also tried loading Ubuntu 12.10 and install Cheese, but it was unable to detect the webcam. It may not have a driver for it though.

I do not think this is a hardware failure. Email this team and provide to them the problem and troubleshooting done.

I just wanted to update this thread.
It turned out to be a hardware issue which was resolved by Dell replacing the LCD assembly.
The broken webcam was reporting a hardware ID of 0C45:6350 but the correct one is 0C45:6430.
The firmware update has a bin file for 0C45:6430 and one other (the different ID was probably the reason why it was stating that the device did not need updating).
I believe a hardware failure caused the device to report the wrong ID which is why the device was showing up as a 'Sonix' camera. I did try searching for drivers and info on the ID 0C45:6350 but very little can be found.
Hopefully this may help others who may come across a similar issue.
For those who want to just replace the webcam, I believe the mini-board with the webcam and microphones on, has the part number: 04MYKF.
