Upgrading Graphics Card

Good day,

I have an Alienware 17 r1 (2013) model and currently I have GTX 860m (2gb) graphics card and I want to upgrade to any video card with 3gb or more memory but I don't know what graphics card are compatible with my system.  In addition, I want to know where I can buy mobile graphics card aside from Ebay. Is it possible to buy it directly from Alienware/Dell? Thank you very much.

Places to buy: Eurcom, rjtech, uhh... some forum?

GPUs with at least 3 GB of VRAM and better than your 860m:

    • GTX 770m
    • GTX 780m
    • GTX 870m
    • GTX 880m
    • GTX 970m
    • GTX 980m
    • HD 8970m / R9 m290x

Do you have the 3D panel (120 Hz) on your laptop?

Warranty won't be voided, but your new GPU won't be covered.

That said, while all of those GPUs will work in the 17 R1, the GTX 970m and GTX 980m are a bit harder to install. The other GPUs, except the GTX 870m, were options when the 17 R1 was available to buy (so plug-and-play).

Thank you for your quick reply. No, I have the 1920x1080 non-3d panel. So basically any of those card is compatible with my system? Also, can I replace the card by myself or will it void the warranty?
