Blue Screen

I have a dimension 4600, locked up while updating Norton Anti Virus.  I powered off the computer, when I started it back up it stopped at a blue screen with the following;

Technical Information:

***STOP:  0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0xBFC9058, 0xBAB847DC, 0x00000000)

***      win32k.sys - address BF8C9058 base at BF800000, DateStamp 3d6de5e5

I have tried reseating ram, installed new ram, reloaded windows, same blue screen.

No error beeps, and ABCD all green.

Any ideas?

    ..And I have the identical problem on a Dimension 3000. I've swopped out everything I can and still the same result. Currently trying to do a repair install of XP from the cd - looks good then bsod's just after the first windows page with the exact same error.

    Tried changing to different versions of win32k.sys - but that completely messes it up!

    any ideas anyone?

    How far into the boot does this occur?

    Try pressing the F8 key as soon as you see the big DELL screen. and load into safe mode. do a system restore to a time before you tried the install

    Er, no, that won't work. Does the same when trying to do a safe mode boot or normal or last known good config.
