common knowledge

Hi there,

Normally, should we turn off the computer each time/everyday when we finish our work; or just log off and keep the hard disk on? I am not sure which way is the best for the computer; log off or turn off?

Thanks very much.
Kathy

    Hi

    Look at
    this

Myself.. I have my monitor set to go off in 15 min. of no use.
Shut down everything if I'm not going to be using it
    in the next couple hours.

    Hi, kcywu.

Monitor turns off in ten minutes and everything is switched off, when not in use or I'm away from the house and every night, after all why waste power.

i guess it really doesn't matter if you leave on or not.... but honestly, it uses less energy (newer computers) to leave on all the time, than it is to turn off and turn back on..... but if you are leaving or something, just turn off the monitor, printer, speakers, and things like that, and just leave the computer on.....

however, if you have the computer in a room that gets fairly warm and have no air cicurlation or air conditioning, then i would recommend you turning it off, b/c you'll be suprised how much heat computers create...i have my computer in my bedroom and at times it heats it up... then thats the time for me to open the windows or turn it off...

    best regards,
