Computer Overheating - need advice
In my custom rig, I recently I've upgraded my Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB graphics card to a GeForce 6800 GT 256MB card. This has resulted in increased tempertaure which seems to be causing my system to overheat. Half Life 2, after 10 mins, causes the system to restart, FarCry does the same thing after about an hour, UT2004 is fine, and does not cause overheating. I watch the ambient temperature and GPU core temperature rocket up in HL2, and core gets to about 90C, ambient temp around 60C. I have an akasa 3500 rpm exhaust fan and an intake fan. Basically, I need advice on how I can more effectively cool my system, I have a Zalman CPU cooler which is of good quality so I dont think a CPU overheat is the problem. I dont really want to ticker with my graphics card installing new heatsinks fans etc. I currently have a MIDI tower, would it help to build my system into a full tower case? If not, what else would help stop my system from overheating. Are slot exhaust blowers any good? Help much appreciated

Thanks you very much for your reply. Although I'm sure your idea would probably work, I really want as quiet system as possible (I should have said this in my original post, sorry) Im having second thoughts about tinkering with my grpahics card, and I may buy a better cooler for it. My plan is is follows:-

At current I have alot of components squashed together in my MIDI tower, and I think this could also be a problem, I have 2 harddisks in RAID, GF 6800 GT, Audigy 2 all pretty close to eachother
I was also thinking of chaging my mind and getting a better cooler for my graphics card, I have two choices at current
1. Arctic Cooling Rev.2 nVidia 5 (6800 Series) VGA Silencer (its the one before the bottom) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Arctic_Cooling.html

What should I do? Do you think it would be worth it at the end of the day to invest on a larger case and a better gfx cooler to be on the safe side?

- It's possible it's not the heat. I have a new fast card, and it's set not to slowing itself down until it reaches 120 degrees.I could be your power supply. These cards require alot of amps. To me, this is more likely to cause a re-start, not overheating.

You could try a fan on the side which positioned right could bring more air to the graphics card and CPU.
You could have two side fans. One on the graphics card and another, above it, ducted to the CPU.
You could even consider a third fan on top drawing more air through the whole machine.
Make sure you don't need more PS for that new card and the fans you might install.
Machine will not be quiet.
MaxiumPC Magazine has an article coming in the next issue on available water cooling kits. They claim it will cover the issue in depth (sorry).
