Dimension 4700c

Okay I have a Dimension 4700c and was curious. the i915G chipset says it will support up to 8GB of RAM. However the the specifications for this particular computer state that the board maxes out at 2GB. It theory I should be able to dump two 2GB sticks of RAM on the board and it should work. I understand that a 32 bit OS is only going to address just over 3GB of that, that is not my question. I just want to know if the bios gimps this to strickly 2 GB even though the chipset dictates otherwise.

Sometimes it's possible to use more memory than the manual states; as examples, the E310 (officially limited to 2gb) can use at least 4gb, and the 2350, officially limited to 1gb, can use 2gb.

I suggest you try a 2x2gb pair yourself.
