Error Code 2000-0146

Hi
All,

My problem started with Outlook email. When I select Send/Receive a message appears
that I am "not authorized to perform this operation”. Also, email will not
download from the email server. However, I can send a composed email but only
after being prompted for the email account password. I found that the email
passwords were not being stored and I also could not access the Credentials
folder – getting the same message that I was "not authorized" despite
the fact my owner permissions showed "full control" for this folder.

I ran the normal checks for viruses and disc checks and all checked out OK.
Finally, I ran the start up computer diagnostic which returned error code
2000-0146 along with an audible alarm. Per Dell’s troubleshooting guide, the
hard drive was removed and reinstalled and the diagnostics run again - with the
same results.

The question is "Must the hard drive be replaced to solve the email and access
problems or is there another way to correct these problems?"

Any or all suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Error 0146 indicates a failed/failing hard drive or bad drive sector.   This means your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Backup any data files and folders you need save, to other media.
