I recently had to re-install Windows XP on a Dimension 2300. I installed the Intel 845 drivers from Dell's web site.

When running DOS/command programs in full screen, the display (Dell 151FP) says the video mode is not supported. I find this odd since it should be using the normal 80x25 video mode which is used by pretty much every PC before the operating system loads.

This screen does display if I plug a CRT display in. Some other TFTs display the screen with a warning that the refresh rate (85Hz) is not recommended.

Changing the refresh rate or resolution through display properties in Windows doesn't help.

 

Does anybody know how I can get Windows to use the normal text mode rather than some stupid incompatible mode?

I notice someone else posted this same problem to the board but had no replies, so I'm not particularly hopeful.
