Note: After I posted this I was reading some of the back posts and I found one which helped me i.e. delete normal.dot. This cured the problem immeadiatly.

Suddenly I cannot start Word 2000. NOTHING on the computer had been changed, modified or added since it ran ok then all of a sudden all that is displayed on the screen is the license screen and then the PC locks.

I've reinstalled Word 2000 (as part of the Works Suite 2000 supplied by Dell), I've ran a virus checker, nothing was found (using latest virus list), ran scandisk and even used an old registry but I still cannot get Word to run.

All the other applications that I've tried still run ok .... what can I do?

Could this be hardware or can it only be software problem?
